Ephesians 1:11 “In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:”
It would be a fruitless waste of time to respond to all the distortions of this blessed passage, because the message of this passage is perfectly clear! Paul plainly declares that “In whom” (Christ Jesus) “also we have obtained an inheritance”; that is, by the exclusive act of Christ Jesus “we have obtained an inheritance”. To “have obtained” means that it is, even now, ours by the sovereign and unchanging grace and “will” of God, not by any act or will of our own. Our Lord told His Apostles, “In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.” (John 14:2). Paul wrote to Titus, “That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.” (Titus 3:7). Peter tells the “Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father” that “the Father” “hath begotten us again unto a lively hope”, and this blessed “hope” points “To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,” (I Peter 1:2-4). While hanging on the Cross, just prior to giving His life, our Lord proclaimed, “It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.” (John 19:30). In the act of His sacrificial death, our Lord “finished” everything necessary to and did Eternally save “his people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21); for He also tells us that “of all which” the “Father” hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day” (John 6:39)! Thus, in a world that is often fraught with sadness, heartbreaks, disappointments, and trials; we are wonderfully comforted and have reason to rejoice greatly; for, “we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will”!
