Luke 8:45 “And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?”
This precious woman “had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any” (Luke 8:43) and she had no place else to go. But, her faith compelled her to her Lord. There was a large crowd present; yet, she discretely and privately approached her Lord. At that moment, her world consisted of her and her Lord; she was not alone in her condition. The Lord was busy, on the way to help others; but, He had time for this poor needy soul. There were no intermediaries, her eyes were fixed upon her Lord. When she quietly approached her Lord from behind, she reached forth her hand “and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched” (Luke 8:44). She “touched” the outer fringes of our Lord’s “garment”, the least part, “and immediately” “virtue” (goodness and power) went out of the Lord and she was healed. One of the many messages that comes out of this account is that, when no one can help us and no one has any more time for us, our Lord can help, and He does have time for us. The Lord asked, “Who touched me?”, not because He didn’t know, but He asked to emphasize the grand blessedness of this, seemingly concealed, event. When we are in such a low state, feeling that all hope is lost, remember this blessed woman, for our Lord knows and He cares, and He is able to lovingly and powerfully help us. We have reason for hope; for, our “high priest” (Jesus Christ), can indeed “be touched with the feeling of our infirmities” (Hebrews 4:15). So, “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16)!
