2020-06-05 “the stone which was set at nought”

Acts 4:11  “This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.

To “set at nought” is to despise, have contempt for, and to utterly reject.  Many, in our present world, are still trying to “set” our Lord “at nought”.  Great efforts are made to “set” Him “at nought” from Government, education, family, society, every aspect of our lives, and even in the corrupt versions of the Bible.  Those who hate Him even try to “set” Him “at nought” in prayer, replacing prayer with a ‘moment of silence’!  As they seek to “set” Him “at nought”, they replace Him with immorality, dishonesty, greed, deceit, hatefulness, meanness, and unforgiveness.  While they are seeking to “set” Him “at nought”, they are filling the prisons, making more and more addicts of all kinds, destroying marriages and families, and killing unborn children.  But, He is “the stone”, “the head of the corner”; He has built His “church” upon “the rock” of truth that He is “the Christ, the Son of the living God” and “the gates of hell shall not prevail against it” (Matthew 16:16-18)!  There are indeed “false teachers among” us, “who privily” “bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them”; but, they “bring upon themselves swift destruction” (I Peter 2:1).  So, what do we do as many seek to “set” our Lord “at nought”?  We remember that “God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble” (James 4:6).  We “Humble” ourselves “in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up” (James 4:10).  We must “be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble” (I Peter 5:5).  For those who love the Lord, now is the time to “seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” (Matthew 6:33) and to “be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord” (I Corinthians 15:58) – never forgetting to PRAY.  Said another way, read the Word of God, Go to the Lord’s Church where He is worshiped “in spirit and in truth” (John 4:24), be a part of the Lord’s Church, obey the Lord’s Commands, and do all these things with honesty and integrity and humility and love and prayer.
