2020-07-27 “Jonathan climbed up upon his hands and upon his feet”

I Samuel 14:13  “And Jonathan climbed up upon his hands and upon his feet, and his armourbearer after him: and they fell before Jonathan; and his armourbearer slew after him.

It is absolutely amazing what one our two can do when the Lord gives them courage and strength.  Israel’s enemies had subjugated them and taken their weapons away and king Saul (Jonathan’s father) had commanded all his army to stay in the camp.  But, “Jonathan said to the young man that bare his armour, Come, and let us go over unto the garrison of these uncircumcised: it may be that the LORD will work for us: for there is no restraint to the LORD to save by many or by few” (I Samuel 14:6).  So, having one of the only two swords in the entire Israelite army, “Jonathan climbed” (a cliff where there was an enemy out post), he went “up upon his hands and upon his feet, and his armourbearer after him”; “And that first slaughter, which Jonathan and his armourbearer made, was about twenty men, within as it were an half acre of land, which a yoke of oxen might plow.” (I Samuel 14:14).  That victory on a cliff set off a chain of events that led to the complete rout of the enemy.  One man following the inspiration of the Spirit, went forward in God-given faith, courage, and strength; and Israel was delivered from their enemies.  The Almighty God we worship can take a “few” and accomplish miraculous things!  In the face of this virus and all its confusion and the present chaos in our Country, we may have to climb some rocky cliffs; but, let us pray for wisdom, courage, and strength from the Lord to “be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord” (I Corinthians 15:58), “it may be that the LORD will work for us: for there is no restraint to the LORD to save by many or by few”!  So, lets keep reading the Word of God, praying daily, obeying the Word of God, and going to Church (even if we have to do it over the internet for a while); and keep singing “Victory In Jesus”!
