Psalm 37:34 “Wait on the LORD, and keep his way, and he shall exalt thee to inherit the land: when the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it.”
The “Elect” (I Peter 1:2), “born again” (John 3:1-8) Children of God have every reason to hope for a better day! To “Wait on the LORD” is to live each day in anticipation that our Lord will certainly get the victory over the wicked and our tribulations. Even in the midst of our tribulations, we can rejoice for, “it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you” (II Thessalonians 1:6). To “keep his way” is to read and learn the Word of God, to listen to Spirit-led preaching from the Word, and to faithfully obey the Word of God. Our vial adversary is viciously wielding his most effective weapon against us, discouragement! But, those who “Wait” and “keep” shall “see it”; that is, shall “see” the Lord get the victory over our adversaries and tribulations. As for the “wicked”, the Psalmist inspires us to hope in the Lord, telling us “I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a green bay tree. 36 Yet he passed away, and, lo, he was not: yea, I sought him, but he could not be found.” (Psalm 37:35-36) and “the transgressors shall be destroyed together: the end of the wicked shall be cut off” (Psalm 37:38)! As we look for leaders, “Mark the perfect (as defined in the Word of God) man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace.” (Psalm 37:37) and remember that “the salvation of the righteous is of the LORD: he is their strength in the time of trouble” (Psalm 37:39). In an Eternal sense, “all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23); but, the “perfect” and “upright”, in this context, are those who strive with all diligence to adhere to the Word of God, avoiding such things is idolatry, dishonesty, and immorality. Remember as we are struggling to “Wait” and “keep”, “the LORD shall help them (the waiters and keepers), and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him” (Psalm 37:40)! May the Lord daily inspire us to be faithful waiters upon His deliverance and keepers of His Holy Word! The Victory is before us!
