Ephesians 3:19 “May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; 19 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.”
Paul now explains why he prayed that those in the Church would “be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man”, “That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith”, and that we would be “rooted and grounded in love” (Ephesians 3:17-18). All these things he prayed for so that we “May be able to comprehend”, “know the love of Christ”, and “be filled with all the fulness of God”. This “great love” (Ephesians 2:4) that our Lord has for and shows to His beloved Church is so magnificent, so comforting, so pleasant, and so assuring that, although it “passeth knowledge” (more grand than we can fully know in this life), he yet prays that we “May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height” of this “great love.” That is, that we “might be filled with all the fulness of God” and to knowingly experience it to the maximum extent that is possible while we live on earth. Those who are “filled with all the fulness of God” will most happily experience “the fruit of the Spirit” which “is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance” (Galatians 5:22-23). Let us likewise pray for our Churches that we would be filled to capacity with “the fruit of the Spirit” and that this blessed “fruit” would be as “the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.” and that our “light” will “so shine before men, that they may see” our “good works, and glorify” our “Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 5:14-16). Then, we will experience what it means to have “a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall” (Isaiah 25:4)!
