Exodus 14:15 “And the LORD said unto Moses, Wherefore criest thou unto me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward:”
The “children of Israel” were in a humanly hopeless situation. The Red Sea was before them, the mighty Egyptian army was behind them, and there were steep mountains on either side of them. From a human perspective, they could see no way out, they thought that they were trapped, and the Egyptian army was going to utterly destroy them. The “children of Israel” were frightfully moaning and complaining to Moses. Moses had already told them to “Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD” (Exodus 14:13) and that “The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.” (Exodus 14:14). When Moses took the problem to “the LORD”, “the LORD said unto” him “speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward”. If it were not “the LORD” giving such a Command, it would have been absolutely foolish for “the children of Israel” to “go forward”! Yet, under Moses’ leadership, they did “go forward” and “the LORD” did indeed fight for them and save them and destroy the Egyptian army. While our situations may not be as obviously dramatic or as historically significant as Israel’s was; in the service of our Lord we do, from time to time, find ourselves in absolutely impossible situations. And, in our impossible situations, like Israel, we must “be of good courage” (Psalms 27:14) and remember that the same “LORD” Who saved Israel from their enemies is on scene with us to “make a way to escape” (I Corinthians 10:13) and deliver us; thus, we “hold” our “peace”!
