Numbers 6:23 “Speak unto Aaron and unto his sons, saying, On this wise ye shall bless the children of Israel, saying unto them,”
The “LORD” Commanded Moses (Numbers 6:22) to teach “Aaron and” “his sons” how to “bless the children of Israel”. “Aaron and” “his sons” were priests, dedicated to the LORD’s service for “the children of Israel”. This “blessing” was (is) both a petitionary prayer and declaration. This “blessing” (prayer and declaration) was for very specific blessings that God prescribed for His Children. As with much of the Old Testament, this “blessing” is a practical prophecy; that is, it applied to “the children of Israel” in Old Testament times; and it is a prophecy completely and eternally fulfilled by our Christian “High Priest” (Hebrews 3:1), Jesus Christ, the Son of God (Matthew 14:33), the “Sun of righteousness” (Malachi 4:2). In Old Testament times the LORD chose out “the children of Israel” to receive special blessings as a prophetic type of the great blessing coming to “the Israel of God” (Galatians 6:16) in the New Testament times. The “Israel of God” includes all the Children of God among both the “circumcision” (Jews) and the “uncircumcision” (Gentiles) (Galatians 6:15). While the Old Testament priests could only speak this “blessing”, our Christian “High Priest”, Jesus Christ eternally accomplished this blessing (Acts 3:26) for all of His Children when He Sacrificed Himself to “save his people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21). And, our “High Priest” and His blessing is “for ever” (Hebrews 7:17,21; 10:12; 13:8,21). Now we can worshipfully rejoice for our “High Priest”, “our Lord Jesus Christ” “hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings” (Ephesians 1:3)!
