I Chronicles 29:11 “Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted as head above all.”
When the people of Israel gave abundantly and willingly of their wealth to obtain materials to build the Temple; David went before the Congregation of Israel and worshipfully proclaimed, “Blessed be thou, LORD God of Israel our father, for ever and ever.” (I Chronicles 29:11). He continued his worshipful praise, declaring the holy, sovereign attributes of God. One of God’s blessed attributes is “victory”! It is impossible for God to lose a battle, for His very being is “victory”, He wins every time. Enemies ignorantly rise up against Him and His people and His Church; but, He defeats them all. It is true that God sometimes uses men as He did the Judges and Kings, but He alone is the source, cause, and strength of “the victory” in every battle. All kinds of storms and God-hating enemies assault and plague the Children of God; but, in the end, the Lord gets “the victory” every time. Remember the great question and answer: the people ask “Who is this that cometh from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? this that is glorious in his apparel, travelling in the greatness of his strength?”; the King of kings answered, “I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save.” (Isaiah 63:1). In our present distresses, “victory” is assured, for the Lord God Almighty is on the field and He is “mighty to save”. Let us be of good courage and “not be afraid of them … remember what the LORD thy God did unto Pharaoh, and unto all Egypt” (Deuteronomy 7:18) and to every other enemy since then!
