Isaiah 45:22 “Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.”
Even today, there are many who “set up the wood of their graven image, and pray unto a god that cannot save” (Isaiah 45:20). Some actually set up images to worship, some worship themselves, a person, power, institutions, organizations, their way of life, wealth, carnal pleasures, etc. An idol is anything that, in our minds and hearts, has more preeminence than “God”. An idol attracts people away from “God” and His Word and His Church and His People. An idol appeals to our human nature to lust after things and to be entertained by things and activities. The problem is that “things” are not “God”, for our Lord is “God” “and there is none else”! An idol (“thing”) can do nothing to save us from troubles in life and cannot eternally save us. Our Lord plainly declares, “there is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me” (Isaiah 45:21). With our God-given Faith, For deliverance through life’s troubles and salvation to Eternal Life, we reject men’s idols and spend our time “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:2)!
