Psalms 18:30 “As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him.”
In contrast to sinful and weak man, the “way” of “God” “is perfect” in every respect; that is, everything He does is in perfect alignment with His Holy Will. Furthermore, “the word of the LORD is tried”; that is, what He has decreed and promised has occurred and will occur exactly like it is recorded in His Holy “word”. His Holy “word” “is tried”; that is, it is perfectly, reliably true and accurate no matter how severe our tribulations become, no matter how great and fearsome our adversaries are, and no matter how weak and unable and unworthy we view ourselves. Also, our “God” “is a buckler to all those that trust in him”; that is, He mightily stands between us and our enemies and He is “able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked” (Ephesians 6:16). So, no matter how our election turns out today, our Lord’s “way is perfect” and He “is tried” and He is our “buckler”. He and He alone “is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords” (I Timothy 6:15) and He is the “high priest for ever” (Hebrews 6:20) over His Church. He has reliably protected and preserved His Church (His Bride) in every generation; and His “word” will not fail in our generation. So, however this election turns out, let us start out in worshipful prayer on our knees and then resolutely stand up straight and tall and declare, “as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD” (Joshua 24:15)!
