2020-11-17 “My heart is fixed”

Psalm 57:7  “My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed: I will sing and give praise.

My heart is fixed”, is said twice, to emphasize absolute commitment to the Lord, His Word, His Church, and His people.  Although the Psalmist’s “soul” was “bowed down” because his adversaries had “prepared a trap for” his “feet” and had “digged a pit before” him (Psalm 57:6), he was resolute, his “heart” was “fixed” on the Lord his “God”.  The word “fixed” connotes both being uncompromisingly steady and being well prepared to be steady.  Being “fixed” is somewhat like a soldier that trains and trains and practices his skills so that when the day of battle arrives, he is confident that he will prevail.  So it is with the Children of God, to be strong and resolute, we must “add to” our God-given “faith” (II Peter 1:5-9) those things that strengthens and prepares us to be faithful to our Lord no matter how many traps or pits our adversaries put in our way.  Evil men have a “heart” “fixed” on their lusts for power and personal gain.  The Children of God have a “heart” “fixed” on the Lord, His Word, His Church, and His people.  The Children of God joyfully exercise their God-given “faith” and become stronger and stronger as they exercise their faithfulness to the Lord.  There is no nation or army or institution more powerful than a body of believers with their “heart” “fixed” on the “Lord”.  Consider, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” (Philippians 4:13); for, our “Christ” is “the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords” (I Timothy 6:15).  The adversaries “shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful” (Revelation 17:14).  Our victorious King “hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS” (Revelation 19:16)!  Our Lord gets the Victory every time He steps onto the field of battle!  We have every reason to rejoice; for, if He can get the Victory over sin, death, and the grave (I Corinthians 15); surely, He can and will get the Victory over His adversaries!  So, let us just “sing and give praise” and keep right on rejoicing in our Lord.
