2020-12-29 “He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh”

Psalms 2:4  “He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.  5  Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.  6  Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.

The Sovereign Power and Authority of God is graphically illustrated in these passages.  The “antichrists” (I John 2:18), under the leadership of the devil himself, are doing everything in their power to eliminate Christ and Christianity and our faithful allegiance to Him (Psalm 2:1-3).  While the “antichrists” are employing every trick and device and weapon in their arsenal; the Lord God Almighty “sitteth” upon His “King of kings” (I Timothy 6:15) Throne “in the heavens” and is laughing at them and holding them in “derision”.  That is, while the “antichrists” appear to have a lot of power, influence, and authority to do us and Christianity great harm, our Lord knows what He is going to do to them and when the moment comes, we will stand in great awe of His Sovereign Power as He defeats them and looks upon them in their defeat with scornful “derision”.  The Lord cyclically defeats the “antichrists” from generation to generation, and He defeated the devil and his “antichrist” when He came to Sacrifice Himself; but on the last day of this earth, He will completely and finally defeat them.  So, while it may seem to us that immorality and lustful greed and wickedness are going to absolutely destroy us, we must push back discouragement and despair by “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:2)!  He is going to do something, we just do not know exactly what, when, or how!  We should “Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed” (Joshua 1:9); for, there will come a day when the great cry will be heard concerning the wicked, “thine end is come” (Jeremiah 51:13)!
