Psalms 2:7 “I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.”
The “LORD” prophesied, “Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.” (Psalm 2:6); that is, He will defeat His enemies and His “Son”, the King, will reign as the “only Potentate” (I Timothy 6:15). As the “only Potentate”, He is the only ruler with absolute power and authority to reign over all human powers and authorities. Though He had been rejected by men and Crucified, when John saw Him in His Glorious Majesty, he proclaimed that “he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS” (Revelation 19:16). The LORD’s “decree” is that His “Son” is “begotten”; that is, the Savior-King is “begotten” (Isaiah 9:6); and even now, He reigns Supreme over all human nations and rulers. The wicked may think that they can do evil with impunity, but they will soon learn that “The LORD reigneth, he is clothed with majesty; the LORD is clothed with strength, wherewith he hath girded himself: the world also is stablished, that it cannot be moved.” (Psalms 93:1)! So now let joyfully us “Say among the heathen that the LORD reigneth: the world also shall be established that it shall not be moved: he shall judge the people righteously.” (Psalms 96:10) and say, “The LORD reigneth; let the earth rejoice; let the multitude of isles be glad thereof.” (Psalms 97:1) and say, “The LORD reigneth; let the people tremble: he sitteth between the cherubims; let the earth be moved.” (Psalms 99:1)!
