2020-3-23 “I set my face unto the Lord God”

Daniel 9:3  “And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes:

Now is the time when we should “set” our “face unto the Lord God” by much and continued “prayer and supplications”!  To “set” our “face” is to intensely focus our minds, our hearts, and words of “prayer” “unto the Lord God”.  When we focus upon “the Lord God”, all our troubles and the attractions of life are dimmed in our minds, while our attention is entirely upon our Redeemer.  Later, we can debate the origin, cause, extent, and recovery from this Coronavirus; but, now our Country is in distress, fear has beset us as a plague, many people are very sick, and some have died – right now is the time to pray!  Because of our “Lord” Jesus Christ’s great sacrifice on our behalf, we can “therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16).  Daniel was a dedicated student of the “books” of the Bible (Daniel 9:2) that had been written at that time.  He knew by Jeremiah’s prophecy that their deliverance from captivity would be soon, for the Word Of God told Him so.  So, let us likewise “set” our “face unto the Lord God” by much and continued “prayer and supplications”; and confidently hear our Lord’s comforting promise: “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” (II Chronicles 7:14) and “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)!  King David determined that, “Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice.” (Psalm 55:17); and we should do no less!
