II Corinthians 1:10 “Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us;”
After referring to the severe “trouble” that he and those with him had endured in “Asia” and how that, through their awful experience, they learned that they “should not trust in” themselves “but in God which raiseth the dead” (II Corinthians 1:8-9), now he concisely summarizes his encouragement and exhortation. He plainly tells us that it is “God … who delivered … doth deliver … will yet deliver”! That is, it is “God … who delivered” us through our past troubles, it is “God … who … doth deliver” us at this present moment through our present trouble, and it is “God … who … will yet deliver” us through any future trouble that may be cast upon us. Those who have God-given “faith” (Hebrews 12:2) indeed rejoice, even in the midst of our awful troubles because we “trust” in our “God”. This doesn’t mean that we simply sit down and do nothing, it means that, no matter what happens, we will depend upon our Lord’s grace and mercy to “press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:14)! Said another way, when we think that things are as bad as they can get, we simply look to the Lord and “go forward” in His service (Exodus 14:15)!
