2020-4-9 Notes From The Pastor’s Trumpet

Deuteronomy 31:6  “Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.  7  And Moses called unto Joshua, and said unto him in the sight of all Israel, Be strong and of a good courage: for thou must go with this people unto the land which the LORD hath sworn unto their fathers to give them; and thou shalt cause them to inherit it.”

Before his death, Moses told the Children of Israel that they were going to enter and possess the land of Canaan and he exhorted and commanded the people to “Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid”.  Just like forty years earlier, they had every HUMAN reason to be faint of heart and fearful; for, there were still great and mighty armies in the Land, there were secure and wall cities, and there were giants in the Land.  Joshua would lead the people into and to possess Canaan, so Moses exhorted him to “Be strong and of a good courage”.  Anytime, even in the Bible, that we are exhorted to “fear not” and “Be strong”, we immediately know that there is some human reason to be afraid and to be discouraged; for there is an ominous threat right before us.  However, even in our current distress, we have every reason to “fear not” and “Be strong” for “the LORD” our “God” is “with” us.  Those in leadership must set the example and “Be strong and of a good courage” and keep directing the Children of God to “Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of”, in our case, the Coronavirus that is threatening to ravage our Country.  This is a time for leaders to be leaders!  Moses told the Children of Israel that they would be victorious because the Lord would be with them, the same is true in every generation, even today!  The Lord told king Solomon, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” (II Chronicles 7:14); and, He’ll do the same for us.  So, let’s just keep praying and “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith” (Hebrews 12:2).  Don’t forget to pray for the doctors, nurses, law enforcement personnel, military personnel, and others who cannot separate themselves!
