Psalms 2:7 “Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth. 11 Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. 12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.”
Kings are exhorted to “Be wise” and “judges” (rulers at all levels) are exhorted to “be instructed”. The Lord had just declared that He “shalt break” “the heathen” “with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel” (Psalm 2:8-9). That is, King Jesus is on His Heavenly Throne and “the heathen” that oppose and fight against Him will be defeated in this life! They may laugh at Him and scorn Him and His Church and His people; but, when He declares “An end, the end” (Ezekiel 7:2,6), no human power or authority can stand against Him. Some “put far away the evil day”; that is, they do not think it will happen in their lifetime; but, they actually “cause the seat of violence to come near” (Amos 6:3); that is, their wickedness and immorality will “cause” the Lord to send His “rod of iron” to “dash them in pieces” very soon! Knowing this truth, rulers and all people are charged to “Kiss the Son”; that is, to forsake their wicked ways and to humbly and lovingly Worship Him, Serve Him, and Obey Him! We are all to “Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little.”. Biblical and post Biblical history reveals that cyclically, the wicked “heathen” are defeated and subdued before our Almighty God. This cycle will continue until the last day of this present world! In view of this impending day in which “the seat of violence” shall come upon the wicked, our Gracious and Merciful Lord encourages His faithful Children this way, “Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.”! To be “Blessed” is to be well off, well protected, well comforted, and well-loved even as “the seat of violence” rages round about us!
