II Samuel 22:31 “As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all them that trust in him.”
I’ll be Seventy Years Old this month and for sixty of those years I have followed the news as closely as I could. While I still read and watch the news, I have learned to trust very little of what I read, hear, and see in the news. Also, I have learned to not fully trust institutions and authorities. The news reports are often inaccurate; they leave out significant points that are necessary to understand what is happening, they embellish certain points to control our judgment, and sometimes they report unsubstantiated events as fact. I actually trust very few people in life; for, some will lie to deceive, and some will lie because they don’t know any better and do not know when to say nothing. But, I entirely, wholly, and completely, … “trust in” my Lord; for, it is “impossible for God to lie”; therefore, we “have a strong consolation” and we can flee to Him for “refuge” and we can “lay hold upon the hope set before us” (Hebrews 6:18)! Furthermore, He “is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints” (I Corinthians 14:33). Our merciful and gracious and loving Lord “is a buckler (defense and strength) to all them that trust in him”. Right now, is one of those times in which the Children of God MUST spend our time “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith” (Hebrews 12:2) and go to Church; that is, “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” (Hebrews 10:25). In the pulpit, Preachers are charged to “Preach the word” (II Timothy 4:2), not make political speeches. We are Commanded to pray for our leaders; but, we must leave politics to the politicians and leave bad news to the news reporters! We affect politics by prayerfully learning the Word of God and going to the poling places and choosing godly people to rule over us and “exhorting one another”. And, if wicked people are indeed hindering the election processes of “One Nation Under God”, God will not stand for it; I would not want to be in the shoes of such wicked people when the Lord puts a stop to it! Remember Paul’s exhortation, “But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead:” (II Corinthians 1:9)!
