Psalm 27:14 “Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.”
In a time of great distress David rests his “courage” upon the power of God. So confident was David in the Lord’s deliverance that he declared, “Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.” (Psalm 27:3). David’s “courage” rested upon his faith in the Lord, for he wrote, “For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.” (Psalm 27:5). So complete was David’s faith in the Lord, that he considered the most extreme distress and yet rejoiced, “When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up.” (Psalm 27:10). David confesses his own weakness; thus, requiring his dependence upon the Lord, “I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.” (Psalm 27:13). Knowing that distress would also come into our lives, David exhorts us to be comforted as he was, “Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart”.
