Matthew 24:22 “And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.”
Because of institutional, violent rejection of our Lord and His Church, our Lord told His Children that there would “be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be” (Matthew 24:21). This “tribulation” would bring great suffering, mayhem, death, destruction of homes and property, gross ungodliness, and unbearable misery. But, because of our Lord’s “great love wherewith he loved” His people (Ephesians 2:4), “for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened”! Again, we are seeing institutional rejection of Jesus Christ, His Doctrine, and His Church, and it seems that we have entered another period of “tribulation”. But, our Lord has not quit loving and caring for His “elect”, His “sheep”, His Children; therefore, “for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened”! So, let us hear our Lord’s consoling exhortation, “Come, my people, enter thou into thy chambers, and shut thy doors about thee: hide thyself as it were for a little moment, until the indignation be overpast.” (Isaiah 26:20)! Oh, let us flee together to our blessed “chambers” (places of refuge, our Churches) to worship and pray “until the indignation be overpast”!
