Matthew 6:33 “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
What is “first” in our lives? What do we value more than anything or anyone else? What holds the highest priority in our daily activities? What do we love and give our affection to more than anything or anyone else? In His introductory sermon of His Church-Kingdom, our Lord Commands us to “seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness”! The “kingdom of God” is supremely contrasted to all human authorities, powers, institutions, organizations, governments, and rulers. The “kingdom of God” is the Realm of God where Jesus Christ, the Son of God is “the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords” (I Timothy 6:15). One of the main purposes of the Old Testament is to clearly prophesy of the coming “kingdom of God”; for example, “And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.” (Daniel 2:44). The Lord told His Disciples, “there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God” (Luke 9:27). And, as evidence that “the kingdom of God” had arrived, the Lord said, “if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you” (Luke 11:20). The power and authority of God, in His Church-Kingdom, was vividly revealed when “suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.” (Acts 2:2-3). To “seek ye first … his righteousness” is to prayerfully and lovingly learn and submit ourselves to the doctrines, practices, and behaviors that our Lord has decreed to be “right” in His Holy Bible, not what men might declare to be right! Our Lord explains that we are to “seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness” above all other things, even our own desires, wealth, comforts, and even our basic human needs (Matthew 6:19-34). Now is the time for all Children of God to prayerfully evaluate the priorities in our lives and make whatever adjustments are necessary to “seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness”!
