2021-02-15 When Fog’s Confusion Would Discourage Us

Psalms 27:3  “Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.

In times of anxiety, confusion, and fear we must be steady and focused upon the Lord, His Word, and His Church.  When “an host” of our adversaries and our troubles “encamp against” us to make “war” “against” us, our natural inclination is to feel overwhelmed and to fall into deep despair.  The phrase, “an host”, suggests that there is more than we can handle; so, we cannot possibly defend ourselves.  When “an host” encamps against us, their intention is to defeat and destroy us.  In such times, there is great confusion and wondering how we will survive; our natural mind tells us that we probably will not.  However, our God-given “faith” (Hebrews 11:1; 12:2) enables us to see clearly through the fog’s confusion and see that the Lord, our “good shepherd” (John 10:11,14) is near and that He is mercifully leading us through the confusion and tumult.  Therefore, we can “be confident” that the “host” will not overthrow us; for, “In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.” (Proverbs 14:26).  We can indeed survive the vile intentions of the “host” by prayerfully “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith” (Hebrews 12:2)!  Victory over the “host” is assured!
