II Thessalonians 2:16 “Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, 17 Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.”
To “stablish” is to make stable, unwavering, unmovable, and secure even in the very face of this life’s storms, tribulations, trials, troubles, obstacles, persecutions, etc. The “good word” is “good” if it is preached, taught, learned, believed, and practiced according to the Holy Word of God. The written “good word” was given by God to men who wrote it down as they were moved by the Holy Spirit of God. The written “good word” is preserved by the Sovereign, Omnipotent God for His people in every generation. The “good word” is prayerfully and faithfully studied and preached and taught by called men of God. The “good word” is not complicated, men make it complicated by their alterations and vain versions and personal translations. The “good word” is used by the Holy Spirit to “Comfort” our “hearts” and to “stablish” us in our faithful service to our Lord. The “good word” is our constant Guide and Command in life: “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” (Psalms 119:105). Real peace and joy come as we conform our lives and doctrine to “every good word” of our Merciful and Gracious Lord.
