Hebrews 3:13 “But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.”
To help avoid “unbelief”, “departing from the living God”, we are to “exhort one another daily”. To “exhort one another” is to be observant of “one another” so that we can know each other’s troubles and trials and fears and anxieties. We “exhort one another” by encouraging “one another”, comforting “one another”, helping “one another”, and showing love to “one another”. Essential to this blessed exhortation is knowing the Word of God and using passages and language from the Word of God to comfort, encourage, and guide “one another”. That is, “consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works” (Hebrews 10:24), “comfort one another with these words” (I Thessalonians 4:18), and “comfort yourselves together, and edify one another” (I Thessalonians 5:11)! The “born again” (John 3:1-8) Children of God are still human beings with human weaknesses and failings. Even after being “born again” and being called to be an Apostle, Paul said of himself, “For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. 20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.” (Romans 7:19-20). Like the Apostle Paul, we all must fight against our weaknesses and against the devil who appeals to our weaknesses, and as a Church of Brethren and Sisters we help “one another” by “daily” exhorting “one another” with Biblical expressions of love and encouragement. The more time we spend together, the better able we are to “exhort one another”!
