II Thessalonians 3:3 “But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil.”
If our “Lord” was not “faithful”, all hope would be lost, misery and chaos would be our daily lot. With respect to the “Lord” our God, “faithful” means that our “Lord” has perfect fidelity, He is absolutely reliable in every respect. Jeremiah proclaimed, “great is thy faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:21)! The Psalmist declared of God, “thy faithfulness reacheth unto the clouds” (Psalms 36:5) and “thy faithfulness shalt thou establish in the very heavens” (Psalm 89:2)! Even our own “unbelief” cannot “make the faith of God without effect” (Romans 3:3). He is the “God, that cannot lie” (Titus 1:2)! Even at our best, we humans are not “faithful”; for although we may earnestly yearn to be honest and reliable, unforeseen circumstances often prevent us from fulfilling our promises and commitments. It is not so with the “Lord” our God, nothing can or will prevent Him from accomplishing is Perfect will. He has “saved his people from their sin” (Matthew 1:21). He is “faithful” to call His Children to Spiritual Life (I Corinthians 1:9). And we have a sure “hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began” (Titus 1:1). And we live each day, facing a host of dreadful tribulations, yet being uplifted and having a “good hope” (II Thessalonians 2:16); for “the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil” (II Thessalonians 3:3)!
