Jeremiah 4:30 “And when thou art spoiled, what wilt thou do? Though thou clothest thyself with crimson, though thou deckest thee with ornaments of gold, though thou rentest thy face with painting, in vain shalt thou make thyself fair; thy lovers will despise thee, they will seek thy life.”
The Lord our merciful God had blessed Israel with a good land and great prosperity and peace; but, after a while they arrogantly turned from the God that had so magnificently blessed them to their own self-centered vanity. They worshipped idols that gratified their carnal lusts. They lavishly clothed and presented themselves as royalty; bringing all glory to themselves as if they had acquired their prosperity and peace by their own power and intellect. They would soon learn that they did not obtain their wonderful blessings themselves, neither could they maintain them on their own. Thus, the question, “when thou art spoiled, what wilt thou do?”! It seems that people never learn; even today, God and godliness is publicly rejected, even many religionists claim and teach that arrogant man shares a vital part in his Eternal Salvation, and he takes credit for it; thus, shamefully denying the Lord’s own words, “It is finished” (John 19:30)! That is, He and He alone had “finished” everything necessary to “save his people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21); and, He plainly declared, “And this is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.” (John 6:39). Oh, let the faithful Children of God now bow down in humble prayer, then rise to declare, “Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable.” (Psalms 145:3) and “The glory of the LORD shall endure for ever: the LORD shall rejoice in his works.” (Psalms 104:31).
