2021-10-07 “LORD, hast not forsaken”

Psalm 9:10  “And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.

There are times in which our “troubles” are so great that we ask, “Is his mercy clean gone for ever? doth his promise fail for evermore?” (Psalms 77:8) and “Hath God forgotten to be gracious? hath he in anger shut up his tender mercies?” (Psalms 77:9).  As bad as things may seem and feel to us, we can be certain that our “LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee”.  Even the Lord’s Apostles had weak moments; for, in the midst of a great storm, they ask “Master, carest thou not that we perish?” (Mark 4:38).  But our worshipful “faith” is proven when we remain “stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord” (I Corinthians 15:58) no matter how severe our troubles may become.  There was a time when Paul and those with him had troubles so bad that they thought they were going to die and they even came to the point that they begin to think it would be better to die; but, Paul tells us that in their troubles they learned “that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead” (II Corinthians 1:8-10).  While dreadful storms do sometimes rage in our lives, let us never forget that “The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.” (Psalm 9:9).  In prayer, David put it this way, “Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me: for my soul trusteth in thee: yea, in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be overpast.” (Psalms 57:1).  While the storms are raging, over the noise of the storm, we can hear this blessed exhortation, “Come, my people, enter thou into thy chambers, and shut thy doors about thee: hide thyself as it were for a little moment, until the indignation be overpast.” (Isaiah 26:20).  So, while our stormy troubles are raging around us, let us “come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16) and “Let us go into the house of the LORD.” (Psalms 122:1); for, our “LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek” Him!
