II Corinthians 1:11 “Ye also helping together by prayer for us, that for the gift bestowed upon us by the means of many persons thanks may be given by many on our behalf.”
After telling of their deliverance from grave “trouble” “in Asia” (II Corinthians 1:7-10), Paul tells the Church, that as they had prayed for them in their “trouble”, they should now give “thanks” for their deliverance. Paul refers to their prayers as “helping together by prayer for us” and as “the gift bestowed upon us by the means of many persons”. Likewise, as we learn that folks are in some sort of “trouble”, we ought to help them by praying for them; for, “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” (James 5:16). In our human weakness, we often forget to give “thanks” after we are delivered from some “trouble” in our lives. At the present, we have many troubles in our Country and in the lives of those we know, and we are praying for our Almighty Lord’s deliverance. I am confident that our gracious and merciful Lord will deliver us through all these troubles; and when He does, let us not forget to also give “fervent” “thanks” for His deliverance! As the Psalmist put it, let us “Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.” (Psalms 100:4)!
