II Corinthians 3:6 “Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.”
The “new testament” reveals the absolute surety that the Children of God have the “eternal inheritance” (Hebrews 9:15) that was promised in the Old Testament, but was fully achieved when our Lord declared “It is finished … bowed his head, and gave up the ghost” (John 19:30); “Jesus” was “made a surety of a better testament” (Hebrews 7:22) by His Sacrificial Death. The Old Testament contains the Covenant Promise, the New Testament is the Holy Record of the “death of” the “testator” [Jesus Christ] (Hebrews 9:16); “For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth.” (Hebrews 9:17). Thus, at the instant that our Dear Lord Jesus Christ gave His Precious Life, His Promise of the “eternal inheritance” was immediately and irrevocably in “force”. Thus, we can worshipfully declare with all confidence that “we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will” (Ephesians 1:11). In this present life we often “suffer for” Christ’s “sake” (Philippians 1:29); but, we both endure and rejoice as we hear the Blessed Gospel of the New Testament preached; for, it lifts our minds above the tribulations of this present world to the Glorious “inheritance” that our Lord has already “obtained” for us!
