II Corinthians 4:3 “But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: 4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.”
Light is necessary to a healthy and prosperous life. My wife likes to sit her plants near a window so the “light” can “shine” upon them. When they do not get enough light, they begin to wilt, look bad, and will eventually die. So, it is with the Children of God, without “the light of the glorious gospel of Christ” shining “unto them”, they begin to wilt away into a miserable life that is devoid of joy and peace and prosperity. The adversaries of “Christ” hate “the glorious gospel of Christ” because it encourages the people to follow and obey and worship Jesus Christ and not the ungodly and immoral things of this present world. The “glorious gospel of Christ” exhorts the people to be honest, moral, kind, loving, generous, forgiving, and faithful to God. Furthermore, “the light of the glorious gospel of Christ” reveals and pushes back the dark “wiles” (Ephesians 6:11) and “devices” (II Corinthians 2:11) of the devil which minimizes the effectiveness of his weapons against us. When the Children of God see “the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God” brightly shining “unto them”, “God” is worshiped and there is general happiness, peace, prosperity, and “the god of this world” loses his effectiveness. Now is the time for the Children of God to reject the darkness of “the god of this world” and worshipfully embrace “the glorious gospel of Christ”; that is, pray daily, read the Word of God, and attend and be a part of the Church where “the glorious gospel of Christ” is preached and taught. While the Children of God prosper under “the light of the glorious gospel of Christ”, “the god of this world” wilts and fades away under it’s brilliant beams. At the present, there are many who are weak and frail and falling away; but, let us pray that “the Sun of righteousness” will once again arise “with healing in his wings” (Malachi 4:2); when He does, there will be a great revival and prosperity among the Lord’s people!
