Psalms 50:14 “Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High: 15 And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.”
In our day, confusion and corruption and anger and immorality and wickedness and even bad judgments by our leaders appear to be leading our country over the cliff. So, what do we do? Sit around and talk about how bad things are getting and how bad they’re going to get and moan and groan and lament about it? “Jonathan”, king Saul’s son, got up and did something about it. He went into battle, against all odds of winning, declaring “there is no restraint to the LORD to save by many or by few” (I Samuel 14:6)! Now, in our present condition, we are again “in the day of trouble”, and our Lord tells us exactly what to do! He clearly instructs us to worshipfully come together to “glorify” Him by offering Him “thanksgiving” and paying our “vows unto the most High” and calling upon Him “in the day of trouble”! To “pay” our “vows unto the most High”, is to lovingly and worshipfully learn and obey His Commandments (John 14:15). Now is the time for the Children of God to faithfully come together, and steadfastly and uncompromisingly worship and serve the Lord in “spirit and in truth” (John 4:23-24) no matter what anyone else is doing or saying. Said another way, the medicine for our great ill is more TRUE CHRISTIANITY; for, it comes complete with the truth of God, good morals, good integrity, pleasant brotherly love, sincere kindness, and good judgment. Furthermore, those who profess TRUE CHRISTIANITY do not impose it upon anyone; but, they readily share it with all who are interested. TRUE CHRISTIANITY is impressed in the heart by the Holy Spirit at Spiritual Birth (John 3:1-8) and then nourished by the Preached Word. Our Sovereign Eternal Holy God, that cannot lie, promised that if we do these things, He “will deliver thee”! One of the most frequently quoted passages of Scripture in our day is, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” (II Chronicles 7:14). Now, “Let us go into the house of the LORD.” (Psalms 122:1)!
