Genesis 49:10 “The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.”
Under inspiration of the Spirit of God, Jacob was blessing his children before his death. When he came to “Judah”, he gave him an extraordinary blessing, much different than that of his brothers. This passage prophesies that from “Judah” shall come a successive line of kings and rulers and leaders over Israel that would be perpetual “until Shiloh come”; that is, until the “King of peace” (Hebrews 7:2) is come, Who is Jesus Christ, the Messiah, our Savior. Furthermore, Jacob prophesied that unto “Shiloh” “shall the gathering of the people be”! This “gathering of the people” is the Elect Children of God out of both the Jewish and Gentile people; including Children of God from “every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people” (Revelation 14:6)! The Spirit gives these “people” Spiritual Life (John 3:1-8) and then draws (John 6:44) them together with Him and His “people”. This “gathering” is one of the most pleasant sights known to man; for, as the Spirit of God reveals Himself in “the gathering”, hearts and minds are lifted above the cares and troubles of this present world and fixed upon the Lord our God and the magnificent things above. This “gathering of the people” has one sure thing in common, the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Those who are gathered are educated and uneducated, rich and poor, well known and unknown, old and young, intelligent and simple, skilled and unskilled, healthy and unhealthy. They all come together loving the same Lord, loving the same Gospel, loving one another, embracing one another, encouraging one another, and helping one another as Brethren and Sisters in the Great House of God! It is no wonder that king David declared, “I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD.” (Psalms 122:1)!
