2022-03-14 Many Of The Jews Believed, But Some Went To The Pharisees

John 11:45  “Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him46  But some of them went their ways to the Pharisees, and told them what things Jesus had done.  47  Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said, What do we? for this man doeth many miracles.

They all saw our Lord raise “Lazarus” to life again, and “many of the Jews … believed on him … But some of them went their ways to the Pharisees”.  Then Jewish leaders “gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees” into “a council” (John 11:47) and “took counsel together for to put him to death” (John 11:53).  This account proves the point that if a person is not “born again” of the Holy Spirit (John 3:1-8), not even the very sight of the Lord raising someone from the dead could move them to believe.  Furthermore, the ungodly have an inherent jealous hatred toward God and the Children of God.  The ungodly Jewish leaders could see that the people were beginning to reverence and follow Jesus and not them and it incensed them; for, the wicked thrive on the praise of men and positions of honor and power and wealth.  But, Jesus Christ showed Himself to be the meek and lowly Lamb of God, yet He was/is the Son of God, the Almighty God.  He is so meek and lowly that sinners flock to Him for forgiveness, the sick come to him for healing, the lonely come to Him for comfort, the troubled come to Him for help, the weary come to Him for rest, etc.  Even in his day, Job believed and joyfully looked forward to the grand day in which he would see his beloved Lord himself: “Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another” (Job 19:27).  Even this very day, because our gracious Lord sacrificially gave His precious life for us and took it up again, we can “therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16).
