2022-04-21 “his commandment is life everlasting”

John 12:49  “For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.  50  And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.

Our Lord makes it clear that, while He is indeed a man, He is also the Son of God and, being in perfect union with the Father, it was His purpose to fulfill the will of His Father and fully obey His every Command.  He was a man, but He did not come into this world to set up a kingdom like a carnal man would, a kingdom that looked like and functioned like the other kingdoms of the world.  He did not come to promote Himself as an earthly king steeped with carnal glory, seated in a massive palace, adorned with majestic apparel, surrounded by servants and governors that leap at His every command, commanding great armies that are sent out to conquer the world, and possessing great vaults laden with conquered wealth.  He was under Command from the Father to “say” and “speak” those things that pertain to “life everlasting” for all that His Father had given Him (John 6:39) “before the foundation of the world” (Ephesians 1:4).  On one occasion, some folks became confused and discouraged and walked away from the Lord, so He asked His Apostles if they would go away too, “Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.” (John 6:68)!  It is with these blessed “words” that our Lord built His Church-Kingdom (Matthew 16:18) and it is these same “words” that sustain us this very day.  To me, the crown-jewel of our Lord’s “words” is “It is finished” (John 19:30); for, with these “words” He declared that He had forever secured and sealed the Eternal Salvation for all “his people” (Matthew 1:21)!  Now, we are longingly “Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;” (Titus 2:13) when we “shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord” (I Thessalonians 4:17)!
