Genesis 6:11 “The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.”
It seems that men never learn! God sent the Great Flood upon the earth because “The earth also was corrupt before God” and “the earth was filled with violence”. To be “corrupt” is to be rotten with dishonesty, deceit, greed, exclusive self-interest, lust for power, gross immorality, no respect for human decency, and vain affection for vulgar idolatry. Those who practice this “violence” have no concern for the pain and suffering of others or respect for their property or possession. They’ll take another person’s life without any remorse for their own gain and pleasure. They’ll destroy other people’s property, sometimes just for the pure delight of it. These are the kind of things that happen when people “have perverted their way, and they have forgotten the LORD their God” (Jeremiah 3:21) and “have forgotten their restingplace” (Jeremiah 50:6). This happens when the children of God become lax in their faithfulness to the Lord, which allows wicked and ungodly men to rise up and take the reins of civil power. It is certainly true that God promised to never again destroy the earth with a flood (Genesis 9:11); but, He has removed His protective hands and allowed the vicious enemies to have their way with His rebellious people until they learned and repented. As the invading army was on the way, He told Judah, “If thou wilt return, O Israel, saith the LORD, return unto me: and if thou wilt put away thine abominations out of my sight, then shalt thou not remove.” (Jeremiah 4:1)! They didn’t listen and they lost their Country, their freedom, their homes, and their way of life. In this morning’s news, there are fresh reports of killings all across the Country, robberies, deceit in government, and even growing disinterest in religion. But the big entertainment centers and carnal parties are busting at the seams. The idols cast before our children are glorified for their skimpy clothing and the filthy, wretched bilge that is called music. The Lord gives us this warning, “Now consider this, ye that forget God, lest I tear you in pieces, and there be none to deliver.” (Psalms 50:22). So, now is the time to break this destructive cycle and go to Church and encourage others to also go! Like David who proclaimed, “I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD.” (Psalms 122:1)!
