Isaiah 54:10 “For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the LORD that hath mercy on thee.”
As our Lord told His Apostles, “In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”; and He is our “peace” (John 16:33). Through Isaiah, He tells us “the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed”; that is, there will be great and terrible calamities’; but, His “kindness” and “peace” and “mercy” are absolutely sure to His beloved Church and people. Some might ask, how can you have awful “tribulation” and terrible calamities and at the same time enjoy “kindness” and “peace” and “mercy”? Yesterday, just before sunset, we had a severe thunderstorm with a lot of thunder and lightning; but, as I looked to the west, at the same time, I could see a vivid blue sky and the clouds had a bright gold lining, and that brilliant lining grew and grew as if it was simply driving the storm away, and soon the storm was gone. The sun that caused the bright gold lining was always there, even when I couldn’t see it behind the dark and ominous clouds that lingered and lingered for hours and hours. Our Lord, “the Light of the world” (John 8:12), is always there, even in times of the most awful “tribulation” and terrible calamities. And when we “stand still” for a little while, we are sure to “see the salvation of the LORD” (Exodus 14:13); for, He will not forget His “kindness” and “peace” and “mercy” toward His people; it is certain that upon those “that fear” His Holy “name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall” (Malachi 4:2)!
