Psalms 71:16 “I will go in the strength of the Lord GOD: I will make mention of thy righteousness, even of thine only.”
Wisdom recognizes our own human weaknesses and frailties; but, at the same time declares by faith that “I will go in the strength of the Lord GOD”! Like the Psalmist, we are often faced with grievous troubles, confusions, setbacks, oppositions, etc. But, a healthy faith, simply keeps going in the service of our Lord, it never gives up no matter how bleak things look, it never assumes failure even if the way seems impossible, it always declares victory even if the odds are a million to one, ever “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith” (Hebrews 12:2)! This positive outlook is much needed at this present time, for the “heathen” are once again raging and imagining vain things (Psalms 2:1; Acts 4:25); trying to discourage the Children of God and thwart the goodness of the Lord. Now is the time for us to exercise our faith and be as Abraham, who “staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; 21 And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.” (Romans 4:20-21). And we need to strongly encourage one another by often making “mention of” our Lord’s “righteousness”. Even right now, we have reason to “Be of good courage, and let us play the men for our people, and for the cities of our God: and the LORD do that which seemeth him good.” (II Samuel 10:12)! And when things get really bad, just “Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.” (Psalms 27:14)! In Isaiah’s day, “They helped every one his neighbour; and every one said to his brother, Be of good courage.” (Isaiah 41:6), let us do the same!
