Philippians 1:9 “And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; 10 That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ; 11 Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.”
An abounding “love” is “love” that is growing; always getting stronger and pleasantly affecting new areas of our lives. This abounding “love” is for the “knowledge” of our Lord and His Holy Word and His Church and His People. To be effective, this abounding “love” must be “in all judgment”; that is, to be useful, “knowledge” must come with good “judgment” or discernment. It is good to know a lot of things, but knowing a lot, is only good if you use your “knowledge” wisely. As Paul prayed, we should likewise pray for such an abounding “love” and that we will also have good “judgment” so that we “may approve things that are excellent” and “may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ” and live in service to our Lord “Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God”! In our day it seems that anger and hatred and meanness and vicious spite and maliciousness are devastating our society; our mainline defense is to pray for and act upon this blessed abounding “love” and “knowledge” of God and godliness!
