2022-12-21 “fashioned like unto his glorious body”

Philippians 3:20  “For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ21  Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.

Paul continues to direct our attention away from this vile world to that blessed day in which our “Lord” “shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body”.  This “change” will be from the “natural body” that is “sown” in death to a “spiritual body” that is “raised” to Eternal Life (I Corinthians 15:44).  In this present life, “we have borne the image of the earthy” humans; but, in the resurrection, “we shall also bear the image of the heavenly” Lord (I Corinthians 15:49).  It is certain that “in this” present life, in our “earthy” bodies “we groan” under the burdensome weight of sin and corruption; but, we also rejoice in faith’s “hope” (Hebrews 11:1), “earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven” (II Corinthians 5:2)!  Our “earthy” body is plagued with lusts, pains, sorrows, and sin; but, our “spiritual body” will be freed of “earthy” things to joyfully live in Eternal peace and love and worshipful praise of our Lord.  Our Resurrected “body” will be like our Lord’s “body”, perfect and glorious in every way; it will know no sin, sorrow, or sadness!  These “exceeding great and precious promises” declare that we shall “be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust” (II Peter 1:4)!  Furthermore, we greatly rejoice; for, “now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is” (I John 3:2).  Knowing these things to be true, we worshipfully declare, “to live is Christ, and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21); thus, we have a great “desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better” (Philippians 1:23)!
