2022-12-23 “a body hast thou prepared me”

Hebrews 10:5  “Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me6  In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure.

Since the Birth of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior and King, many celebratory things have been added to Christianity that are not to be found in the Word of God.  However, we are Commanded to memorialize His Sacrificial Death (Luke 22:19; I Corinthians 11:24-25).  But, our Lord’s Birth forever altered the course of world events.  So great is His impact upon this world, that since His arrival, in the majority of the world, even time is measured as Before and After Christ.  No other world event has so radically and wonderfully affected the affairs of mankind.  But, we are told that “a body hast thou prepared me”; that is, God had “prepared” a “body” for the Son of God.  The “angel” explained to Mary that “The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing [the “body”] which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.” (Luke 1:35).  The angel also explained to Joseph that Mary “shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins … and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us” (Matthew 1:21-23).  Thus, “a body” was “prepared” for Him; because, a Sinless, Perfect, Righteous, Just, and Holy “body” was required by God for the Justifying Sacrifice to eternally pay the sin-debt for the Children of God.  In short, that blessed and holy “body” was “born” to die; His purpose in coming was to Sacrificially die.  In the mind and purpose of God, He is “the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world” (Revelation 13:8).  Furthermore, “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12).  So, while we are entertaining ourselves with festivities and enjoying fellowship with family and friends, let us never forget that the Son of God was given “a body” that He might Sacrifice Himself to “save his people from their sins”!
