Philippians 4:3 “And I intreat thee also, true yokefellow, help those women which laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and with other my fellowlabourers, whose names are in the book of life.”
The “book of life” is referred to as “the book of life” eight times in the Word of God. This “book” is an Eternal Registry of God’s Children; for, it is “the book of life from the foundation of the world” (Revelation 17:8); that is, this blessed “book of life” was in existence and complete at “the foundation of the world”. Our Lord Commands us to “rejoice, because your names are written in heaven” (Luke 10:20). The “book of life” is a permanent record of the “names” of “the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven” (Hebrews 12:23). This “book of life” is probably a sealed Registry indelibly “written” in the Mind and Purpose of God. It is a Registry of the “Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father” (I Peter 1:2), those “chosen” in Christ “before the foundation of the world” (Ephesians 1:4), and those who “have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will” (Ephesians 1:11). Of this blessed multitude, our Lord Authoritatively Declared, “this is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day” (John 6:39)! It is called “the book of life” because our “God is not the God of the dead, but of the living” (Matthew 22:32). Even when the body dies, the Soul/Spirit of those “written” in the “book of life” lives on with our Lord “in heaven”, in His blessed “paradise” (Luke 23:43). The “fellowlabourers” with Paul gave practical evidence that their “names are in the book of life”! We also ought to live in such a way that no one would have to ask if we are a Christian, our very behavior ought to obviously declare that our “names are in the book of life”!
