I John 3:5 “And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.”
It is clear that, in the mind and purpose of God, that all “sin” must be entirely removed from those who will be taken into “paradise” (Luke 23:43) to be with our Lord. Our Lord’s act of removing our sin was illustrated in the Old Testament Law Service using two goats (Leviticus 16); one was the “scapegoat” which bare/bear/took the people’s sins/iniquities away – symbolically leaving them sinless. One goat was sacrificed as a sin offering (Leviticus 16:9) to pay the sin-debt and all the iniquities of Israel were symbolically placed upon the other goat and he, baring the sin, was taken far away into the wilderness, so that the sin could never be returned to Israel (Leviticus 16:22). But, what those goats symbolized, Christ actually accomplished. Isaiah prophesied that “He [God The Father] shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.” (Isaiah 53:11). John the Baptist declared, “Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.” (John 1:29). We are also told that “Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many” (Hebrews 9:28). Peter puts it this way, “Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.” (I Peter 2:24). And John makes it plain: “And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.” (I John 3:5). Thus, Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, came into this world to render His Elect sinless, by removing their sin, making them fit for Eternal Heaven; and He did it (John 19:30)!
