I John 4:6 “We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.”
We should not be surprised that many show no interest in “God” or godliness; because, many of them simply are not “of God”. Our Lord tells them that “But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you.” (John 10:26). Some are even viciously hateful towards “God” and those who would strive to live godly. It is still true that “he that is not of God heareth not us”; that is, they will not rejoice in the Gospel message; but, will fight against it. “God” sent a warning to Israel, telling them “I set watchmen over you, saying, Hearken to the sound of the trumpet. But they said, We will not hearken” (Jeremiah 6:17)! Therefore, “God” told them “behold, I will bring evil upon this people, even the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not hearkened unto my words, nor to my law, but rejected it” (Jeremiah 6:19). The problem was, and still is today, that they that can “hear” had become self-satisfied and lethargic and had given in to those who would “not” hear and obey the Word of “God”. Because they would not “hear”, “God” said, “When they fast, I will not hear their cry; and when they offer burnt offering and an oblation, I will not accept them: but I will consume them by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence.” (Jeremiah 14:12). Judah and Jerusalem paid a heavy price for not hearing and obeying the Word of “God” and “whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning” (Romans 15:4). No matter what others say or do, let us learn from the lessons of old and “be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only” (James 1:22), all to the Worshipful Praise and Glory of our Almighty God!
