I John 4:10 “Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”
The phrase, “Herein is love”, points to the greatest and most magnificent manifestation of “love”; there is none greater! Paul expressed it this way, “But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,” (Ephesians 2:4). Being the “great love” of “God”; there is no act of “love” greater than what “God” has given to His people. God’s “love” is Eternal, it cannot and will not be repealed or diminished in any way, for nothing “shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:39). The first recorded act of God’s “love” is that “God” the Father “hath chosen us in” His Son “before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love” (Ephesians 1:4). The great acts of God’s “love” for His “chosen” people are expressed this way: “Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace,” (II Thessalonians 2:16)! Thus, we are strongly exhorted to “Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.” (Jude 1:21); that is, tailor our lives to lovingly live in worshipful obedience to our “God”. The more we live in obedience to our “God”, the more we feel and experience His “love” toward us. Our beloved Lord explains it this way, “If a man love [means to both feel and show love] me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.” (John 14:23)! There is no greater feeling of joy or of contentment or of peace or of love than to knowingly feel that our Lord is abiding “with” us!
