I John 4:14 “And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.”
The Apostles “had seen the Lord” (Acts 9:27) after His Resurrection; therefore, they gave first-hand testimony that they “had seen” Him alive after he rose from the dead. Furthermore, John was one of the Apostles that heard God “the Father” proclaim, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him” (Matthew 17:5). And, they also heard our Lord plainly declare, “For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. 39 And this is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.” (John 6:38-39). Their testimony is much like what the angel told Joseph: “But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. 21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:20-21) “and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us” (Matthew 1:23). Therefore, we hold in our hands the first-hand testimony of the Apostles that “have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world”! May the Lord our gracious God bless us to cherish this Holy Word, and read it and learn as much of it as we possibly can and then apply what we have learned to our lives so that we might “be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God” (Romans 12:2)!
