2023-06-05 How Can A Person Believe “that Jesus is the Son of God”

I John 5:5  “Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

One of the most amazing things about believing that “Jesus is the Son of God” is that we have “not seen” Him, yet we “love” Him and believe that He is indeed “the son of God” (I Peter 1:8).  Any person, with even a little intelligence, will not believe something so critical without having reasonable evidence that it is true.  There is only one way a person can truly believe “that Jesus is the Son of God”!  When our Lord asked His Disciples, “whom say ye that I am?”; Peter answered, “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God”.  Then our Lord told him, and us, “Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.” (Matthew 16:15-17).  Therefore, it is most clear that people are made to believe such an astonishing thing by God, our Heavenly “Father” Who plants this blessed truth into our hearts and minds; that is, He “hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ” (I John 5:20).  It is the “substance” and “evidence” that comes with our implanted “faith” (Hebrews 11:1; 12:2).  The “angel” told Mary, “The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God” (Luke 1:35).  When “Nathanael” was speaking to the Lord, he “answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel” (John 1:49).  When our Blessed Lord was Crucified, “the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God” (Matthew 27:54).  When the Eunuch asked to be Baptized, “Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God” (Acts 8:37).  This blessed truth, “that Jesus Christ is the Son of God”, is the “rock” of truth upon which our Lord has built His “church” (Matthew 16:18).  And, the principal requisite for Baptism, is to “believe” and confess “that Jesus Christ is the Son of God”!  The way to overcome the ugliness that is plaguing our Country at this time, is for “believing” Children of God to “take up” their “cross” and follow our Lord (Matthew 16:24); and like our Lord, we ought to worshipfully follow Him into the Baptismal Waters (Matthew 3:14-17)!
