I John 5:20 “And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.”
Because “we are in him that is true”, we “know him that is true” for He “hath given us an understanding” to “know that the Son of God is come”. Furthermore, He “that is true” is the “Son” Of God, “Jesus Christ”. Thus the “Son Jesus Christ” “is the true God, and eternal life”, all others are imposters; that is, they are “false Christs”, and their ministers are “false prophets” (Matthew 24:24). No man, no system, no work, or activity of man can either give or activate “eternal life” for the Children of God. Furthermore, “eternal life” is not an offer to people, waiting for them to accept it. This blessed “eternal life” is an effectual, irrevocable endowment made and eternally secured by “the Son of God” “Jesus Christ”! A person has the “understanding” to “know” that “Jesus Christ” “hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began” (II Timothy 1:9) when the Spirit of God indwells them, giving them Spiritual Life (John 3:1-8). Thus, because “we are in him that is true”, we “know” that “Jesus Christ” “is the true God” and that we have “eternal life” by His exclusive choice and work. Therefore, we greatly rejoice as we worship in singing, praying, preaching, fellowship, and in openly declaring that “Jesus Christ” alone is the cause and security of our “eternal life”.
