II John 1:7 “For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.”
Here John explains why he so strongly exhorts us to show our “love” for our Lord Jesus Christ by walking “after his commandments” (II John 1:6). We are to sincerely walk in “love” and “in truth” (II John 1:4) “For many deceivers are entered into the world”. Faithful “love” and “truth” identifies and contrasts the Children of God as direct opposites of the “deceivers” and the “antichrist” and his “many antichrists” (I John 2:18). We are to stand as a beacon of “truth” (Matthew 5:14) and not to compromise in any way with the “deceivers”; but, we are to “stand” fast in The Faith and “withstand in the evil day” (Ephesians 6:13). The “deceivers” and “antichrists” are formidable foes of Christ, and His Church and people. Thus, we are Commanded to “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:” (I Peter 5:8). This is why the Biblical Writers were moved to use such strong language as “Put on the whole armour of God” (Ephesians 6:11), “Fight the good fight of faith” (I Timothy 6:12), and “endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ” (II Timothy 2:3).
