Psalm 83:18 “That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth.”
There are times when it seems that wicked men have unlimited power to inflict evil sufferings upon the people. In such an awful time, the Psalmist prayed “Let them be confounded and troubled for ever; yea, let them be put to shame, and perish:” (Psalm 83:17). The reason for such a prayer is “That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth.”! Even the most wicked of wicked men can be made to “know that there is a God” (I Samuel 17:46) among the Children of God. It is clear that the wicked do “not like to retain God in their knowledge” (Romans 1:28); but, when “JEHOVAH” defeats them and puts them “to shame”, they have no choice but to know that He is “the most high” and that He rules “over all the earth”, including them. Let us pray that our Great God, “JEHOVAH” will subdue the adversaries of godliness and bind His people together under His loving care so that we can live out our time on this earth in peaceful worship! In prophecy of Jesus Christ, we are Commanded: “O sing unto the LORD a new song; for he hath done marvellous things: his right hand, and his holy arm, hath gotten him the victory.” (Psalms 98:1). Our Lord Jesus Christ wins and the wicked lose every time they rise up to inflict evil upon the Children of God.
